Basic Gameplay

Game Objective: Get closer to 21 than the dealer without going over. Because aces can be either 1 or 11, there will be times when you have what’s called a “soft” hand. For example, an ace and a 5 can be either 6 or 16, and the casino will always use the number that is most favorable towards the player. This includes the FNV casinos.

When you start playing Blackjack, the first thing you want to consider is how many chips you want to bet for this round. You can increase your bet, decrease your bet or bet the maximum allowed.

There are some important phrases and cues to know as you play out the game. Keep in mind, some of these are specific to playing in-game for Fallout New Vegas!

  • Deal: The dealer will start dealing out the cards and this is how you start a new round.

  • Exit: Choose this option if you want to leave the game.

  • Hit: Take 1 additional card, adding it to your total value. This is the usual action to take if your total value is 11 or lower.

  • Stay: Keep your current total and receive no additional cards after this choice.

  • Double Down: Put up an additional bet and you only receive one more card.

  • Surrender: Give up and lose half of your bet.

Basic Blackjack Strategy

What happens when you split the hand.

As a general rule of thumb:

  • If your hand is 16 or lower, hit.

  • If your hand is 17 or higher, stay.

  • Only surrender if your hand is 16 and the Dealer has a 10 up card.

There are some more nuanced decision making processes to consider, however. If the dealer has a 2 thru 6 up card then you would stay if you have a 12 or higher. It’s also usually a good idea to double down if your first two cards equal a 9, 10 or 11.

It’s good to “Split”, which can only occur if your first two cards are the same value. So if you have two 3’s, then you can split the hand. You’ll need to pay an additional wager, but then your two cards are split, making two separate hands. The Simple Strategy says that you can split anything you want except 5’s or 10’s.

Stick out the game for 10 rounds in order to earn the Double Down achievement in-game!

Now you understand the basic gameplay for blackjack in Fallout New Vegas to ensure you the best chance of winning per round. Of course, there is still a lot of luck involved! So if you want to guarantee wins and the most out of your casino play in-game, keep reading for a very simple hack increase your caps.

How to Win Big

You probably came here to learn how to play Blackjack in Fallout New Vegas to increase your caps. It’s time you learned how to do that! It’s a lot easier than you might think to rig the game in your favor. In fact, there are only five steps to this simple hack.

The Vegas Aces FNV Blackjack Hack

  1. DO NOT SKIP: Right before going up to a blackjack table, save your game.
  2. Go up to the table and begin playing.
  3. Bet the maximum amount you can.
  4. If you win the hand, exit the blackjack game and save the game again.
  5. If you lose the game, reload the game and try again.

Yep, it’s that simple, but it works. Now, if only I could pull this nifty gambling trick in real life !

What happens when you are kicked out of the casino

Continue with this strategy until you have your desired amount or until you get kicked out of the casino, easy as that. Note, you’ll still be able to explore the casinos, but you won’t be able to gamble in them anymore.

Yes, you actually get kicked out of the casino for winning too much money, it’s amazing how accurate video games are now-a-days. But unlike in real life, in the video game some of the casino managers will give you prizes before eventually kicking you out. But don’t worry, if you get kicked out, you have 5 other casinos you can go to.

The luck meter

There are 6 casinos total in the game and each one has a different amount you can win before you’re kicked out. When you get banned you’re still allowed to cash out your chips and after being thrown out of 3 casinos, you’ll get an achievement.

Luck levels in Fallout New Vegas affect your blackjack gameplay, meaning your “Luck” levels matter. The higher your “Luck” level is the easier it will be for you to win. You’ll start noticing an improvement around level 6.

Information for Advance Blackjack Players

So, you’re raking in earnings in-game and rolling in the dough. You know how to earn so much money in the FNV casinos that they kick you out! What’s left?

If you consider yourself an advanced player, someone who has played for years and want to know more details about the game, this section for you. Beginner blackjack players probably don’t care about the following details as much.

The odds

A key advanced detail is known as odds. The Fallout New Vegas casinos are different when it comes to blackjack payouts and when the dealer must draw. You can find these rules on the table layout. Here are the rankings in text format, from worst to best:

  1. The Atomic Wrangler: Worst odds with a 6 to 5 blackjack payout.
  2. The Gomorrah and Vikki & Vance Casinos: Decent odds with a 3 to 2 payout, plus the dealer must hit soft 17.
  3. The Tops, Ultra-Luxe and the Sierra Madre Casinos: Best odds with a 3 to 2 blackjack payout plus the dealer must stand on all 17’s.

Here are some more specific tips and insights. All of the casinos in the Fallout game follow these rules:

  • Each game is dealt with multiple decks which are shuffled after every hand. (So much for using this game to practice your card counting skills!)

  • Players cannot purchase insurance.

  • Early surrender is not available.

  • Surrender and blackjack payouts are rounded up.

  • When you’re doubling down, you can double on any of your first two cards.

  • If you’re splitting, you can only split once and you can only split identical cards, you can’t split a Queen and a King, for instance.
