How Did We Determine ‘The Luckiest’ Casinos?

Luck is where chance and consciousness merge. Luck is our brains trying to make sense of a chance occurrence. Humans tend to draw conclusions and see patterns where there are none. It’s the way our brains are wired. Luck is a combination of science, math and psychology mixed together to create what we call luck. Let’s look at each of these more closely.

The Science of Luck

There is a term in science known as “space-time” but when we’re talking about luck, this phrase may sound more familiar: “Right place at the right time”. This can go for either good or bad luck. Time and place are very important factors when considering luck. Choosing one casino versus the other, determines whether a person wins a life-changing jackpot. Bumping into an old friend, that ends up leading to a profitable partnership could be seen as serendipity. Or a spontaneous right-turn, heading to your favorite fast-food restaurant could result in a car accident. Whether it's good luck or bad luck, space-time is an important ingredient in this recipe.

The Psychology of Luck

The psychology of a person impacts luck by means of perception. How you perceive things plays a big part in determining whether you’re lucky or not. For example, if you’re walking down the street and a car veers off the road and almost hits you, are you lucky or unlucky? You could view this event as unlucky since the car almost hit you and you could have died! Or you could see it as being lucky that the car didn’t hit you and you’re still alive.

Perception tends to cause many self-fulfilling prophecies. What do you tend to focus on? Do you focus on more bad things or good things? Believing in luck and focusing on it means you’ll notice luck more often. If a person feels that they are incredibly unlucky and are always noticing all of the unlucky things that happen, then they’ll continue on this downward spiral. The same goes for good luck. Our brains have a filter where we remember and focus on the good or bad luck that surrounds us. It sticks out in our mind, and we tend to notice what reinforces our bias. In a way, we tend to make our own luck.

The Mathematics of Luck

The math involved in luck are also known as probability and statistical fluctuation. Randomness affects a lot of what we do. Any improbable event you can think of is almost guaranteed to happen if given enough opportunities. Another way to think about it, and you may have heard this before since it’s a common saying, if you give a thousand monkeys typewriters, they'll eventually type out William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Probability has a lot to do with that.

Luck is like flipping a coin. If you sit there and record 100-coin flips, you will notice streaks of heads and streaks of tails. We typically have either good luck streaks or bad luck streaks in our life. "When it rains, it pours." These streaks of luck are known in the world of math as statistical fluctuation.

When experiencing bad luck in life, try not to get caught up in the gambler's fallacy, believing that past events predict future events. It's just a flip of the coin, and streaks of bad luck are always accompanied by streaks of good luck.

Luckiest Casinos

It’s time to bring together what we just learned to give you something tangible. The science of luck mentions the right place at the right time. Which casino is the luckiest? In this article, we give you the top 10 luckiest casinos in Las Vegas. The psychology of luck discusses perception. Which casinos do people perceive as the luckiest? We collected 8,812 Yelp reviews from 2006 to 2024 to determine the luckiest casinos. The mathematics of luck discusses winning and losing streaks. Even though we are providing you with a list of luckiest casinos in Las Vegas, keep in mind that winning is a flip of a coin. If you notice you are experiencing a winning streak, incrementally increase your wager and be sure to pocket your winnings, as you are not technically a winner until you walk out of the casino with that cash. If you encounter a losing streak, stop playing, take a break, and try again another day. Whatever you do, don’t chase your loses. Engage in smart bankroll management and determine how much you are comfortable losing before you walk into the casino. Don’t go past that amount.

The following Top 10 List is based off an independent study created by OnlineUnitedStatesCasinos.com. During the study, 8,812 Yelp reviews of every casino in Las Vegas was analyzed, including the Strip and the surrounding areas. For each casino, the total number of reviews were collected and the number of reviews that had the words “Jackpot”, “Luck”, “Lucky”, “Win”, “Winner”, or “Won” were calculated into a percentage. The casinos with the highest percentage of “lucky” reviews made it to the final Top 10 List.

Of course, we must include a couple disclaimers. Every casino was considered, including the casinos on the Strip. The only casinos that were excluded from this study were ones that had less than 400 reviews. If we had included those casinos, their percentage would have been skewed, affecting the results. We focused solely on Yelp reviews about gambling on slot machines and table games, while leaving out any about the hotel, bingo, keno, sportsbook lounge, restaurants, or security. Also keep in mind that this is not every person who has ever won or lost in a Las Vegas casino, however it gives us a good view on the subject matter.

My Own Personal Favorite Casino in Las Vegas

Choosing a favorite casino is a personal decision that will be different for everyone. Some people may like the dealers at one casino more than another. They may have a history of winning at a certain casino. There are so many different factors that go into this decision. Personally, I’ve always loved the Gold Coast, but that is because I started my dealing career there. As a casino dealer, I saw a ton of people win!

One time, I was at a dead blackjack table and there was this 95-year-old woman was sitting at a “Wheel of Fortune” slot machine right in front of me and I watched her play to pass the time. Incredibly, she hit the $2 million progressive, and you should have seen the way her eyes popped out of her head! She must have thought she was hallucinating! She was taken to a back room and the entire way there she looked as if she was in a dream with her mouth hanging open. Later, I was told that she tipped everyone a $100 and then apologized because she didn’t have any more money to give them. (They never pay you such a big jackpot on the same day.)

Another time, I was dealing blackjack, and I had an 80-year-old woman betting $5 per hand, when she got a blackjack. The payout was $7.50. Then she got a 2nd blackjack, and then a 3rd blackjack. The people at the table were telling her to raise her bet and she replied, “No, it won’t happen again.” Then she got a 4th blackjack. Then a 5th, 6th, 7th… She got 8 blackjacks in a row, the most I have ever seen, and she played $5 for each hand!

Every December, the rodeo comes into town, bringing with it a city full of cowboys. One of those cowboys was on my table playing $1,000 per hand and he was completely wasted. He had a 16, hit the 16 and got a 10. He drunkenly picked up that 10, crumpled it up, and ate the card, and then asked for another. My jaw hit the floor. I called over my floorman, and said, “We need another 10 of hearts.” “What do you mean ‘we need another 10 of hearts’? What happened to the last one?” The floorman asked confused. “This guy ate it.” “No he didn’t. Stop pulling my chain, can’t you see how busy I am?” My floor supervisor said shaking his head as he started to walk away. “No, come back; check the camera’s if you don’t believe me!” I called after him. My floor supervisor went to the phone and called the cameras and sure enough they verified my story. When my floor supervisor walked back to the table, he looked stunned. “What should I do?” I asked him. “Well…. if he wants a card so badly, give him another card.” I think everyone at the table was as surprised as I was. I gave him a 5, making 21, and the cowboy ended up winning!

I was dealing blackjack, and I had 2 players on the table. They were an old couple, and they had been playing for a couple hours before the wife finally lost all but $2. It was a $5 minimum table. I mentioned, “You have $2. Put that money on your husband’s bet and if he wins then you win.” She did that and they won the hand. She pressed her bet, playing $4 on his hand, and won that. Now she had enough money to play her own spot. Amazingly, in an hour’s time, she turned that $2 into $200!

Tips for Finding Your Own Lucky Casino

When searching for your own lucky casino, it's important to start with what makes you feel comfortable. Each person is different, and while one casino might feel right for someone else, it might not feel right to you. Ask yourself what games you enjoy, the atmosphere you prefer, and what level of risk feels right for you. Whether it's the ambiance, the customer service, or the variety of games available, comfort is a major part of feeling lucky and having a positive experience.

Another useful tip is to keep a journal of your gambling experiences. Each time you visit a casino, take note of how much money you started with, and how much you won or lost. Take note of the dealer’s name and if you had any memorable interactions with them. Did you like them? Dislike them? Did you talk about things that mattered to you? Write down if anything felt particularly lucky or unlucky. Recording these details will help you recognize patterns in your experiences, such as which casinos tend to bring you luck or where you feel most at ease. Over time, you'll be able to identify the places that make you feel lucky based on both tangible and emotional experiences.

Will You Get Lucky in Vegas?

Now that you’ve got the scoop on the luckiest casinos, it’s time to test your luck! As you embark on your journey, remember that luck comes in streaks, so when good luck happens, embrace it no matter where you are. Whether you're playing at one of the top-ranked casinos or a hidden gem, the key is to enjoy the experience. Keep in mind that gambling should be fun—an exciting form of entertainment - not a way to pay bills. So, stay positive, have fun, and who knows, your lucky streak could be just around the corner!
