How to Play Craps
Craps, often perceived as a complicated game, can be simplified by breaking it down to its core elements. At its essence, it follows the structure of a typical casino game with a main bet and side bets. In the case of Craps, the main bet is the Pass Line Bet, featuring variations such as the Come Bet and the Place Bet. Here are a few of the fundamentals and strategies of playing Craps.
Pass Line Bet & Odds
A new Craps round begins with the "Come Out" roll, where the Shooter aims to roll a 7 or 11 for a Pass Line Bet win. Conversely, rolling a 2, 3, or 12 results in a loss. The House Edge for the Pass Line is 1.41%, while the Don’t Pass Line has a 1.36% House Edge. Players can enhance their bets by taking Odds after establishing a Point, with different payouts depending on the Point. Establishing a Point
Once the Shooter rolls a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10, a Point is established. The Shooter's goal is to roll the Point again before rolling a 7, known as "Seven Out." The dynamics of the game shift, focusing on the Point and 7, while other numbers become irrelevant unless involved in side bets.
Come Bet
Similar to a Pass Line bet, the Come Bet is placed on numbers other than the Point after it's established. Winners are determined by subsequent rolls, with odds available after a certain point. The Don’t Come Bet mirrors the Come Bet but can be made at any time, excluding the Come Out roll.
Place Bet
Place Bets, unlike Come Bets, can be made at any time, excluding the Come Out Roll. Payout odds vary based on the winning number, with house edges ranging from 6.67% to 1.52%. Buy bets, identical to Place bets, offer true odds but come with a 5% commission. Lay bets, the inverse of Buy bets, involve paying a commission for a potential win.
Field Bet
The Field Bet is a self-service bet placed at any time, winning on specific dice rolls. Payouts vary depending on the casino, with house edges ranging from 2.78% to 5.56%, making it a one-roll bet.
Proposition Bet
Located in the middle of the Craps table, Proposition Bets are side bets with varying odds in different casinos. Distinguished by text color, these bets add an extra layer of excitement to the game, offering unique opportunities for players.
Understanding the nuances of each bet in Craps allows players to navigate the game confidently and strategically. Whether it's the Pass Line, Come Bet, Place Bet, or Field Bet, each element contributes to the dynamic and thrilling nature of Craps.
