In order to start playing, you’ll need to turn in your bottle caps for chips. You might have a hard time gambling
with bottle caps since the casinos don’t accept them. Walk up to the cashier’s cage and exchange your caps for
casino chips. Once you’ve completed this step, you can start playing on a Blackjack table. The term “Blackjack”
refers to when your first two cards are an ace and a 10 value card, which equals 21. When this happens, the hand
is an automatic winner. The Ace can be either 1 or 11, depending on what’s favorable to the player. There may be
times where you automatically lose and you don’t know why, you might want to tilt your head up a bit to see if the
dealer just got blackjack because that’s an automatic winner for them as well. The objective of the game is to get
closer to 21, then the dealer, without going over. If both the player and the dealer end up with the same value of
cards, then this is a “Push” and neither hand wins or loses. Because aces can be either 1 or 11, this means that
there will be times when you have a “soft” hand. For example an ace and a 5 can be either 6 or 16, and the casino
will always use the number that is most favorable towards the player.
When you start playing Blackjack, the first thing you want to consider is how many chips you want to bet for this round. You can increase your bet, decrease your bet or bet the maximum allowed. “Deal” means that the dealer will start dealing out the cards and this is how you start a new round. If you want to leave the game, then that’s what “Exit” is for. When playing blackjack, you’ll have some options available to you. “Hit” means that you want to take 1 additional card, adding to your total value. The player would normally hit if their total value is 11 or lower. “Stay” means that you want to stay with the total that you have and you’ll receive no additional cards after that. A good strategy would be to stay on a 17 or higher, or if the dealer has a 2 thru 6 up card then you would stay if you have a 12 or higher. “Double Down” is when you put up an additional bet and you only receive one card. It’s good to double down if your first two cards equal a 9, 10 or 11. “Split” can only occur if your first two cards are the same value. So if you have two 3’s, then you can split the hand. You’ll need to pay an additional wager, but then your two cards are split, making two separate hands. The Simple Strategy says that you can split anything you want except 5’s or 10’s. “Surrender” means that you give up and lose half of your bet. It’s only advisable to surrender if you have a 16 and the Dealer has a 10 up card. After you’ve played your first 10 hands, you’ll get the Double Down Achievement.
Now, I’m guessing the whole reason you want to learn how to play Blackjack in Fallout New Vegas is because you want to
increase your caps. Well, now’s the time to go over that, and it’s a lot easier than you might think. Right before you
go up to a blackjack table, save your game. This is a very important step so please don’t skip it. After you’ve saved
your game, go up to the table and start playing. Bet the maximum amount that you can and if you win that hand, exit the
blackjack game and save your game again. If you lose the hand, then reload the game and try again. Yep, it’s that simple,
but it works. Now if only I could do this in real life.
Continue with this strategy until you have your desired amount or until you get kicked out of the casino. Yes, you actually get kicked out of the casino for winning too much money, it’s amazing how accurate video games are now-a-days. But unlike in real life, in the video game some of the casino managers will give you prizes before eventually kicking you out. But don’t worry, if you get kicked out, you have 5 other casinos you can go to. There are 6 casinos total in the game and each one has a different amount you can win before you’re kicked out. When you get banned you’re still allowed to cash out your chips and after being thrown out of 3 casinos, you’ll get an achievement. When it comes to gambling at Blackjack, your “Luck” levels matter. The higher your “Luck” level is the easier it will be for you to win. You’ll start noticing an improvement around level 6.
So now that you know how to play the game and how to win so much money, that you get kicked out of the casinos, what’s left?
Well, this next section is for advance players. People who have been playing blackjack for years and want to know a few more
details about the game that a beginner might not care so much about. One of these details is known as odds. The casinos are
different when it comes to blackjack payouts and when the dealer must draw. You can find these rules on the table layout.
The Atomic Wrangler has the worst odds, thanks to its 6 to 5 blackjack payout. The Gomorrah and Vikki & Vance Casino have
decent odds with a 3 to 2 payout, plus the dealer must hit soft 17. The casinos with the best odds are the Tops, Ultra-Luxe
and the Sierra Madre Casino, with a 3 to 2 blackjack payout plus the dealer must stand on all 17’s.
If you’re looking for something more specific, try this. All of the casinos in the Fallout game follow these rules. Each game is dealt with multiple decks which are shuffled after every hand. So much for using this game to practice your card counting skills. Players cannot purchase insurance, early surrender is not available, and surrender and blackjack payouts are rounded up. When you’re doubling down, you can double on any of your first two cards. If you’re splitting, you can only split once and you can only split identical cards, you can’t split a Queen and a King, for instance.
